Snag Is A 5-pound Bass
My best fish story to date happened in late May of this year at Lincoln Lakes in Lincoln, Illinois.
A buddy and I were out about 4:30 that evening. We primarily crappie fish, but I was really
feeling this was a good bass night, so we boated over to a newly-downed tree.
I told him " this is a bass haven". We started to troll when I threw out a jig with a tequila sunrise
Berkley Powerbait on. I casted twice and on the third cast let it sit there.
It wasn't five minutes later when we decided to move because of the waves. I picked up my pole
and pulled up. Thinking I was snagged, I let out a big sigh. Then all of a sudden my snag started
moving. I started to freak because my pole was bent pretty good. My buddy stopped trolling to come help
and of course, give me advise.
I was so excited when the fish jumped out of water, I became almost paralyzed. All I could say
was "oh my gosh, oh my gosh". I lost my train of thought when he told me to give it line and hit
the release button on my reel instead of adjusting the drag.
After a good five-minute fight we got him into the boat. It took us that long to get the boat
out of the branches it had floated into while we tried getting the fish in. A five-pound largemouth
bass- not bad for an evening of fishing.
